Dr. A.K. Dhawan obtained the Degree in Civil Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering in 1969. He obtained the M.B.A. degree from Delhi University in the year 1979 and the Master of Technology (Soil Mech. & Found. Engg.) and Ph.D degree from I.I.T, Delhi in the year 1982 and 1992 respectively. He has received training in Rock Mechanics at Imperial College, London and Institute of Geological Sciences, London. He joined Central Water Commission as Assistant Executive Engineer in 1971 and was engaged in design of irrigation and other allied structures.
Dr. Dhawan shifted to Central Soil and Materials Research Station in 1979 and has been working in the field of Geotechnical Engineering since then. He has been handling Geotechnical Investigation including Instrumentation of Irrigation and Hydro-electric Projects in India and neighboring countries. He retired from the post of Director (CSMRS) in July, 2007 and presently he is working as Specialist (Instrumentation) with M/S EGIS Consulting Engineers Pvt. Ltd. Consultant for the World Bank assisted Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP).
